Artist Biography

The line of Emily’s work reflects a notable amount of influence from childhood, synthesizing past anxieties and spatial memories. Experiencing biological trauma at a very young age, she developed a sense of awareness of the vulnerability, impermanence, and beauty of the surrounding world, and of herself. After undergoing transplant surgery at age six, Emily recovered by finding comfort in the outdoors, and solace in creativity. Influenced by a decade of medical complication and religious contexts, her work quickly developed an alluring rawness and atmospheric complexity, leading her further down the path of insatiable curiosity for the uncanny. More recently, Emily’s work has rooted deeper into concepts of liminal, existential, and cryptic horror, exploring the dark corners of human consciousness and fear of the unknown. As a professional artist and deep thinker, her goal is to embrace and navigate these tropes through creative expression, with hope that the unfamiliar may become more familiar…or perhaps even beautiful.

Today, Emily continues to work toward her professional and creative goals after earning her BFA in Drawing at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 2024. As a multifaceted artist, her skills and passions range from conceptual, to visual, to tactical. Specializing in drawing/illustration, her body of work delves into other mediums such as painting, engraving, sculpture, ceramics, photography, design, and even writing. Emily now works as a freelance illustrator at her home studio in central Illinois, where she also spends time on her family farm gardening, crafting, antiquing, and exploring the woods in search for old treasures.
